The guild’s primary aim is to provide a fun, safe and inclusive place for all of our members. As such, we have only one real rule:

Bigoted language or elitism won’t be tolerated.

All members are representatives of the guild, and as such we expect you to uphold these values both within the guild (e.g. /g chat, mumble, guild facebook group) and also when you are out in the world (of Warcraft) interacting with other players.
If you’re not sure exactly what bigoted language means:

“Bigoted language includes, but is not limited to, slurs based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and disability, [also] you shouldn’t use the word ‘rape’ casually.” (source)
In addition to not using bigoted language, we ask that you are respectful of our guild values (i.e. don’t argue or joke with us about this rule, it is there for a reason and we’re not going to change our minds about it).

That said, we aren’t going to crucify anyone who slips up and says something accidentally once in a while, because we understand that sometimes it happens. If you (or we) slip up, we’ll probably just say something along the lines of “please don’t say things like that.” Also, for people new to this kind of thing, we understand that sometimes you might not realise that a particular word is bad. The most important thing is for you to acknowledge it if someone pulls you up on it, and to apologise and try not to do it again.

WoW is a game, and it’s meant to be fun. We understand that for some people having to monitor their language can take the fun out of things for them. There are two main arguments for this:

  • Firstly, there are a lot of guilds where no one will care if you say bigoted or elitist things, so if it takes the fun out of things for you or if you find that it’s just too much effort to monitor your language, then this guild is probably not the right place for you.
  • Secondly, consider that for some people hearing these kinds of things can take the fun out of things for them. This guild aims to be a place where these people can enjoy the game.

This is the reason that we have this rule. It’s got nothing to do with being ‘politically correct (PC)’ and everything to do with being inclusive. (source)

If you have any questions about if certain things are considered to be bigotry or elitism, or you are genuinely curious to know why certain words are not ok, feel free to ask Bonsài or myself (Tamuriil) and we will try our best to answer you or refer you to an article or YouTube video that it explains it.
